According to an article written on dnaindia Bollywood going to meet Turkey as after capturing the picturesque snow-capped peaks of Switzerland, the buzz of London, serene beaches of Thailand, among many other international locales on the big screen, filmmakers are now increasingly tapping the exoticterrains of Turkey. While Mission Istanbul, Guru, Prince and several other films have been shot there in the past, Bollywood seems to have rediscovered its fascination for the country and its cobbled streets, belly dances and quaint little shops. Game, Aazan and the Saif Ali Khan starrer Agent Vinod are some of the films that have been shot there more recently. Among the upcoming films, Salman Khan starrer Ek Tha Tigerfeatures Turkey, and the Race 2 star cast too has just returned from a month- long shoot schedule there.
“It’s certainly interesting to see our filmmakers go beyond the obvious locations like Europe and the US or Thailand and try newer lesser seen locales in films these days. I think that the urge to show something new to the audience has always been there, back then it was Switzerland, but today there are far more places that are being explored,” says actor Anil Kapoor, who recently shot in Turkey for Race 2. Talking about shooting there, Saifsays that the co-operation extended by the country and even locals makes it easier to shoot there. “Besides, Turkey has a certain charm, it’s really exotic and has an old world appeal and an amazing visual charm. I would love to go there even when not shooting,” adds the actor.
Trade analysts attribute the sudden rise in films being shot there to the fact that filmmakers want to show something new to the cine-goers, as well as easier bureaucratic procedures that make it possible to shoot there. “Places like Switzerland and Bangkok are no more as aspirational as they once were, and have been done to death on screen.
