Ek Tha Tiger Takes Rs.75 Crore for Satellite Rights as the news / rumour doing the rounds that Bollywood is that the satellite rights of upcoming Salman Khan biggie Ek Tha Tiger have fetched its producers Yash Raj Films a whopping Rs.75 crore. This is the biggest amount ever that a Bollywood film has fetched for screening on television. Reports say Yash Raj had already finalised the deal to sell the TV rights of Ek Tha Tiger to Sony about a year ago, when the film was still being shot.
It now emerges that Sony, who have a tie-up with YRF for all their films, has agreed to pay the astronomical sum because they feel they would recover more than the invested amount through commercials. Trade sources say advertisers are apparently willing to pay unheard- of sums to buy spots during the television premiere of the film later this year. Ek Tha Tigeris slated for a big screen release on August 15.

The Independence Day this year falls on a Wednesday, and the makers of the film want to cash in on a festive first week that will also include Eid. While nothing is confirmed on when the film will be telecast, the buzz is that Ek Tha Tiger could premiere on TV around Diwali. Sources at Sony, however, are not willing to confirm the Rs.75- crore figure. “The deal has been struck with Yash Raj Films to telecast Ek Tha Tiger, but the amount is probably not as huge as it is being suggested,” said a channel source. The film stars Salman along with Katrina Kaif and is directed by Kabir Khan.
It is rumoured to be riding a mammoth budget of Rs.117 crore, and a Rs.75- crore satellite rights deal would be the right push towards a Rs.200 crore- plus overall earning for the film, which the trade expects. This will establish Salmanâ????s dominance at the Bollywood box- office. ”Advertisers have full faith in the success of Ek Tha Tiger, having already sensed a large television viewership for the film.
